Shoko Kandori's Statement:
Chinese ink goes through a kaleidoscopic and change when applied on a sheet of paper. The basic principle of my paintings is 'noble atmosphere', which is based on the tradition of the excellent Chinese paintings of the past. My goal is to draw an intoned line that responds to the rhythm of the universe, and also to paint the blurred mist surrounding the scene. I also intend to revive the shadings from the paintings of "Muqi", the Chinese painter of ancient times. My challenge is 'to imitate the essence'. Although the form of the painting might be changed, I always try not to forget the tradition of Zen painting, or Chinese painting, and pass it to the next generation. I think my painting is a result of the collaboration with a saint who is dwelling in the ink.
